In his current role as Chief Digital Services Officer at Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC), Abel leads the strategy, development, and delivery of digital products and services. He oversees BTC’s entire digital services portfolio, encompassing digital platforms, user experience, fintech ecosystems, and service innovation. His mandate is to shape and execute the organisation’s digital vision to drive customer engagement, accelerate revenue growth, and position BTC as a leader in digital transformation within an increasingly connected and competitive landscape.

Abel’s leadership is defined by strategic foresight, innovation-driven execution, and a collaborative approach to developing high-performing, agile teams. Before joining BTC, he held senior leadership roles at Bank Gaborone, where he spearheaded digital banking and payment solutions; Votex Systems, where he led national innovation and startup incubation initiatives; and Orange Botswana, where he championed customer experience transformation and digital enablement.

He holds a Master of Research in Business Administration and is currently pursuing a PhD in Business Administration with Guglielmo Marconi University. Abel also holds a B.Sc. in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Sunderland and professional certifications in Enterprise Risk Management, ITIL V3, and the New Manager Development Programme from the University of Stellenbosch.

Jürgen Peschel is a seasoned Chief Executive Officer (CE0)  in the telecommunications space whose career spans over three decades of progressive leadership in cutting edge telecommunications, Information and Technology (IT), digitisation and fintech across Europe, North America and emerging markets including Africa. He has led both group as well as local operator functions providing strong transformative leadership to develop telecommunications providers into the digital era and driving innovation in products and services to grow revenues for sustainable profitable growth. He is known for his in-depth expertise in emerging technologies to spearhead innovation, driving digitisation and focusing on quality of service and business excellence to deliver exceptional customer experience.

Mr Peschel’s leadership encompasses both mobile, fixed and enterprise businesses and he has been instrumental in launching and scaling pioneering solutions, most notably, playing a key role in the rollout of MPesa, the world’s leading mobile payment platform. He has served as Director of a major Nigerian payment service bank and held senior executive positions at tier-1 operators including Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone across major developed markets. For more than ten years, he has led operations in emerging markets at Digicel and Vodafone in the Caribbean and Africa, and his most recent job was CEO & Managing Director of 9mobile (formerly Etisalat) in Nigeria.

Mr Peschel holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Ulm, Germany, and delivered his thesis in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Manitoba, Canada. He also earned a degree in Business Administration from the Université de Saint-Boniface, Canada, and has completed the Management Development Programme at IMD, Switzerland. His unique blend of technical acumen, business leadership and cross-cultural expertise positions him to lead BTC through the next wave of digital transformation as our new CEO.
