BTC showcases its agricultural innovation at Ghanzi Show 2025

Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTC) took part in the Ghanzi Show held in Ghanzi under the theme ‘Sowing Seeds of Innovation for Agricultural Transformation’. The event is one of the most significant agricultural events in Botswana, celebrated for its role in promoting agricultural trade, showcasing innovations, and supporting local businesses and communities. Throughout the five days that the show was held, BTC hosted several activations in the region (Ghanzi mall, Charleshill, and Ghanzi council), offering services such as know your customer (KYC), Smega registrations, sale of Smega prepaid visa card, opening of Smega motshelo account, showcasing VSAT and Starlink services, sim cards sales, replacements and registrations, sales of S6 phones, LTE, and MiFi routers.

BTC also used this opportunity to showcase its innovation geared towards agriculture, namely VSAT and Starlink. In context, BTC provides connectivity, data analytics, and IoT solutions that benefit farmers in efficient resource management as well as improved market access. Through satellite internet and IoT services, BTC assists farmers to manage resources efficiently, access real-time data, and expand market reach. Additionally, satellite internet services are beneficial for farmers in remote areas where traditional broadband infrastructure is limited or non-existent. These solutions allow farmers to access important agricultural resources, including weather forecasts, market trends, and digital platforms for selling their produce, among others.

Furthermore, real-time monitoring and data analytics enable farmers to manage water usage, monitor soil health, and track livestock health and movements. All these technological advancements empower farmers to make data-driven decisions, reduce operational costs, and increase yields. BTC remains committed to driving digital growth in agriculture, improving connectivity, efficiency, and market access for farmers and local businesses across Botswana. BTC is the connectivity partner of the 2025 Softball Extravaganza Tournament

Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTC) is the proud sponsor of the Softball Extravaganza Tournament 2025 held in Selibe Phikwe. BTC was the connectivity sponsor of 300Mbps for the 2-day event valued at more than P163,000.

The Softball Extravaganza returns for the 16th year, once again uniting teams and supporters from across Botswana and the Southern African region. Over the years, the Extravaganza has been a symbol of pride for the Selebi Phikwe community and a catalyst for promoting softball as a tool for youth empowerment and regional sports development. The tournament has grown to become a cornerstone of sports tourism and a powerful platform for community engagement, celebrating both athletic excellence and regional solidarity.

The tournament attracted 16 teams, eight for both males and females across the country. The winning team received a cash prize of P40,000. The teams in second, third, fourth and fifth places received a reward of P30,000, P20,000, P18,000, and P15,000, respectively. Meanwhile, the teams that finished in sixth, seventh, and eighth positions received a consolation prize of P12,000 each.

BTC used this opportunity to showcase its products and services to both residents and tournament attendees. The BTC shop provided services such as sale, registration, and activation of SIM cards, Smega registrations, and promotion of the ongoing specials on the BTC LTE Router, S6 Smartphone, and MiFi.

BTC Staff Members Empower Communities Through the “Do Something for Someone” Staff Campaign

Gaborone, Botswana 18 July 2025: Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTC) has officially handed over donations to selected beneficiaries as part of its impactful “Do Something for Someone” staff campaign. This employee-driven initiative, launched in 2024, underscores BTC’s unwavering commitment to sustainable social investment and community upliftment across Botswana. The campaign highlights the power of employee engagement in driving meaningful change, as BTC staff members took the lead in identifying needs and mobilizing resources.

The handover ceremonies were led by BTC store supervisors, who played a pivotal role in coordinating and delivering the donations. Tlhabanelo Masike, store supervisor for the Ghanzi branch, oversaw the donations of clothing for men and women in Grootlagte and Qabo villages. Nonofo Mosesane, the store supervisor for Selibe – Phikwe led the donation handover to Re a Kgona Rehabilitation Centre who received essential food items and toiletries to aid in the care of its residents, while Keletso Norwebb, the store supervisor for Lobatse coordinated the handover of 35 pairs of school shoes and clothing items to Gopong Primary School.

Speaking at the handover of the donation at Re a Kgona Rehabilitation Centre in Selibe – Phikwe, the BTC Store Supervisor in the area, Nonofo Mosesane explained that the essential food items and toiletries were collected from BTC staff members who heeded the call to donate to a great cause. Through the campaign, staff members were encouraged to donate anything from school uniforms, food items, toiletries, and clothing to be given to members of the community who need them the most. “Through the spirit of botho, we are reminded that when we come together, no challenge is too big to overcome”, he stated.

The ‘Do Something for Someone’ campaign is not only focused on immediate community needs but also on laying the foundation for long-term impact. The goal of the campaign is to empower individuals and communities so they can thrive independently and with dignity. The campaign, which is coordinated through the BTC Foundation, identified several deserving recipients from various regions of the country, selected based on their needs and the potential for meaningful impact. Together, these efforts illustrate how BTC’s “Do Something for Someone” staff campaign continues to transform lives, strengthen communities, and set the standard for employee-led corporate social initiatives in Botswana.

BTC announces the appointment of Mr. Jurgen Peschel as Chief Executive Officer.

Gaborone, Botswana – 16 June 2025, Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTC) is pleased to announce the appointment of CEO, Mr. Jurgen Peschel, effective June 2025, following an extensive recruitment exercise. This appointment is subject to regulatory approval.

Jürgen Peschel is a German national and a seasoned CEO in the telecommunications space whose career spans over three decades of progressive leadership in cutting-edge telecom, IT, digitization, and fintech across Europe, North America, and emerging markets, including Africa. He has led both groups as well as local operator functions, providing strong transformative leadership to develop telecommunications providers into the digital era and driving innovation in products and services to grow revenues for sustainable, profitable growth. He is known for his in-depth expertise in emerging technologies to spearhead innovation, driving digitization, and focusing on quality of service and business excellence to deliver an exceptional customer experience.

Mr. Peschel’s leadership encompasses both mobile, fixed and enterprise businesses, and he has been instrumental in launching and scaling pioneering solutions, most notably, playing a key role in the rollout of M-Pesa, the world’s leading mobile payment platform. He has served as Director of a major Nigerian payment service bank and held senior executive positions at tier-1 operators including Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone, across major developed markets. For more than ten years, he has led operations in emerging markets at Digicel and Vodafone in the Caribbean and Africa, and his most recent job was CEO & Managing Director of 9mobile (formerly Etisalat) in Nigeria.

Mr. Peschel holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Ulm, Germany, and delivered his thesis in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Manitoba, Canada. He also earned a degree in Business Administration from the Université de Saint-Boniface, Canada, and has completed the Management Development Programme at IMD, Switzerland. His unique blend of technical acumen, business leadership, and cross-cultural expertise positions him to lead BTC through the next wave of digital transformation as our new CEO.
