Mobile call rates are the charges applied by BTC when a customer initiates a call to another number, whether locally or internationally.

How It Works

Call rates are configured according to peak and off-peak periods for local calls only.

• Peak — the network’s busy period
• Off-peak — the period when the network is not busy

BTC’s calls and SMS rates are advertised on the BTC website, covering both local and international rates.

Pay before you use.

• Payment model: Pay upfront for airtime or data bundles before using the service
• Usage control: Strictly limited to the amount loaded — once your balance runs out, services stop until you recharge
• Customer profile: Ideal for price-sensitive users; carries no credit risk
• Billing: No monthly bill — usage is deducted in real time
• Example: Buying a P50 airtime voucher and using it until it’s depleted

2. Postpaid

Use first, pay later.

• Payment model: Use services first, then pay via a monthly bill
• Usage control: Services continue within your credit limit — be mindful of potential bill shock if usage isn’t capped
• Customer profile: Suited to higher-usage customers, often corporate or premium users, subject to a credit check
• Billing: End-of-month itemized bill, sometimes with fixed rentals plus variable charges
• Example: A monthly P500 plan with bundled minutes, SMS, and data — plus extra charges if you exceed your limits

3. Hybrid (Mix of Prepaid & Postpaid)

Fixed base, with top-up flexibility.

• Payment model: Combines both — you pay a fixed recurring fee (like postpaid) while retaining prepaid flexibility
• Usage control: Comes with a base bundle or credit limit; any extra usage must be topped up in advance
• Customer profile: Great for mid-range users who want the safety of prepaid control with the stability of postpaid
• Billing: Monthly bill for your base plan; out-of-bundle usage requires a prepaid top-up
• Example: A monthly plan with 5GB of data included — once used up, simply purchase a prepaid data bundle to continue browsing
