Voice over LTE (VoLTE) is a voice calling service that allows subscribers to make and receive voice calls over the BTC 4G/LTE network. VoLTE offers enhanced call quality (HD Voice), faster call setup, and the ability to use voice and mobile data services simultaneously.

How to Activate VoLTE:
For iOS
Ensure you have a 4G LTE SIM card from BTC, and that your iPhone is connected to the BTC network.
1. Open Settings – Tap Cellular/Mobile Data
2. Tap Cellular Data Options
3. Tap Voice & Data, Select 4G, VoLTE On (or LTE, VoLTE On) depending on your iOS version
4. Once enabled, you will see BTC LTE or BTC 4G at the top of your screen. When you make a call, look for the VoLTE or HD icon next to the signal bar.
For Android
Ensure you have a 4G LTE SIM card from BTC, and that your phone is connected to the BTC network
1. Open Settings, tap Connections or Network and Internet – this varies by phone
2. Tap Mobile Networks or SIM & Network- this varies by phone
3. Tap VoLTE calls, and once enabled, you will see BTC LTE or BTC 4G at the top of your screen. When you make a call, look for the VoLTE or HD icon next.
Note: All voice calls will be deducted from the usual airtime balance.

By using the BTC VoLTE service, the subscriber agrees to the following Terms and Conditions.
1. Service Description & Eligibility
• VoLTE is provided as an enhancement to traditional voice calls over 4G LTE networks (HD voice, faster call setup, simultaneous voice & data).
• Availability is dependent on having a VoLTE-capable device, correct SIM provisioning, and LTE network coverage. • Subscribers will need to enable VoLTE on their handset and network provisioning will be required.
2. Charges & Billing
• VoLTE calls are generally billed as normal voice calls, not data usage, and use your existing voice bundle/minutes rather than data allowances (no extra data charges).
• No additional fees/costs for VoLTE beyond what you pay for your voice plan, as standard voice and call charges apply.
3. Service Use & Fair Use
• The service is intended to be used by individual subscribers for personal use.
4. Device & Network Limitations
• VoLTE availability is tied to BTC’s LTE network coverage and device compatibility; BTC does not guarantee service in all areas.
• Quality may vary due to network conditions and handset settings.
5. Roaming
• For VoLTE roaming, charges and conditions for roaming calls apply and differ from local usage, often dependent on partner networks abroad.
6. Changes & Discontinuation
• BTC reserves the right to change or withdraw VoLTE features, with or without notice, as tech or business needs evolve.
7. Regulatory Compliance & Quality
• This service complies with Botswana regulatory frameworks overseen by the Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA), including Quality of Service requirements.
• Complaints and disputes follow regulatory channels and operator complaint processes.

1. GETTING STARTED WITH VOLTE
Q1: What Exactly Is VoLTE, In Simple Terms?
VoLTE (or “HD Voice”) is a major upgrade to our calling network. It makes your voice calls crystal clear (like talking in person) and lets you stay on the 4G/LTE internet while you’re on a call. No more dropping to 2G or 3G when someone calls you.
Q2: Do I Need To Pay Extra For VoLTE?
No, your call rates remain the same, you’re just getting a much better calling experience at no extra cost.
Q3: How Do I Turn On VoLTE On My Phone?
For most new smartphones, it’s already on! We’ll automatically activate it for you.
If you need to check or turn it on manually:
· Go to Settings > Mobile Networks (or Connections)
· Look for “VoLTE Calls”, “HD Voice”, or “4G Calling” and switch it ON.
· We’ll also send you a free settings update via SMS when it’s ready for your device.
2. DEVICE & COMPATIBILITY
Q4: Is My Phone Compatible With VoLTE?
Most 4G smartphones from the last 3-4 years are compatible. We are working with brands like Samsung, Huawei, iPhone, and others to certify models popular in Botswana.
Q5: I Have A Compatible Phone. Why Don’t I See The Option For VoLTE?
Quick things to check:
1. Ensure your phone’s software is up to date (Settings>Software Update).
2. Make sure you are in an area with strong 4G/LTE coverage (the ‘4G’ or ‘LTE’ icon shows).
Q6: Will VoLTE Work On My Tablet Or Data-Only Device?
VoLTE is for voice calls. If your tablet supports SIM calling, then yes. For data-only devices, it does not apply, but LTE will for data sessions only.

Q7: How Do I Know If My Call Is Using VoLTE (HD Voice)?
During a call, look at the top of your screen. If you see “4G”, “LTE” or a “HD” icon (and you don’t drop to 3G), you’re on a VoLTE call. The difference in sound quality is instantly noticeable as it’s clearer and more natural (As if you’re in-person).
Q8: Can I Use The Internet While On A Call With VoLTE?
Yes! This is one of the biggest benefits. You can browse, use WhatsApp, check email, or use maps while staying on your call, without any interruption. Perfect for looking up information or sharing a link during a conversation.
Q9: Why Does My Friend’s Voice Sound So Much Clearer Now?
That’s VoLTE in action! You are both experiencing HD Voice. For the best quality, both you and the person you’re calling need to be on the same VoLTE-enabled network, with compatible phones.
Q10: If I Call Someone On A Different Network In Botswana, Will It Still Be HD?
Currently, HD Voice (VoLTE) works in its full quality when calling other users on the BTC network. Calls to other networks will still connect with excellent clarity, but the full HD experience requires network-to-network agreements, which we are working on.
4. COVERAGE & TROUBLESHOOTING
Q11: Where Does VoLTE Work In Botswana?
VoLTE works wherever you have a strong 4G/LTE signal from BTC. This includes all major towns and cities, and we are constantly expanding. If you move to an area with only 3G coverage during a call, the call will continue seamlessly without dropping.
Q12: What Happens If I Travel Out Of A 4G Area During A Call?
Don’t worry. Our technology (SRVCC) will seamlessly switch your call to the 3G network without disconnecting. You might notice the sound return to standard quality, but the call won’t drop.
Q13: My VoLTE Call Suddenly Sounds Poor Or Breaks Up. What Should I Do? This is usually due to a weak signal. Try these steps:
· Move to a more open area or near a window.
· Toggle Airplane mode on and off to re-register on the network.
Q14: Does VoLTE Use My Data Bundle?
Absolutely not. VoLTE calls are treated as regular voice calls and deduct from your voice balance or airtime, not your data bundle. The technology uses the 4G network path, but it is not charged as data.

Q15: Can I Still Make Emergency Calls (999/997) With VoLTE?
Yes, and it’s even better. With VoLTE, emergency services may receive more accurate location information because you are connected via 4G/LTE.
Q16: Will VoLTE Drain My Battery Faster?
It should improve your battery life. Your phone no longer must switch between 3G for calls and 4G for data. It stays on the efficient 4G network for everything, reducing battery strain.
